Consulting, LLC Gaithersburg, MD A s a health service executive, Dr. Richard Philip Chiacchierini serves as a statistical consultant to companies that are trying to obtain regulatory approval from the Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Chiacchierini became involved in his profession after obtaining a Bachelor of Science in mathematics at St. Bonaventure University. There he met two statisticians who were on the teaching staff and counseled him, encouraging him to consider pursuing a degree in statistics. Having enjoyed the courses he took there, he decided to apply to North Carolina State University, where he obtained a master’s degree in experimental statistics before earning a PhD in statistics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. With newfound knowledge, he began his career as a junior statistician for the Radiation Bioeffects Program at the National Center for Radiological Health. Throughout the span of his 51-year career, he has held leadership positions with numerous institutions and companies. From 1973 to 1994 he served in various capacities for the FDA, and he has been acting president of R.P. Consulting, LLC Since 2016. Dr. Chiacchierini has contributed immensely to his field. He participated in the design, analysis and interpretation of clinical studies on human populations to assess the safety and effectiveness of medical devices, pharmaceutical, biologic, and radiological products; assisted in the design, analysis, and interpretation of experimental, preclinical animal and engineering studies; and designed sample and decision criteria for quality assurance/quality control systems. He has received numerous awards from the United States Public Health Service, an Exemplary Service Medal from the Office of the Surgeon General, and the Outstanding Service Award from the Center for Devices and Radiological Health. He has served on the editorial boards of Statistics in Medicine and Clinical Trials Advisor and has contributed many articles to publications in his industry. Since 2013 he has been an associate editor for Cephalalgia. Dr. Chiacchierini is a member of the American Statistical Association, the Commissioned Officers Association of the USPHS Inc., the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society, and the Military Officers Association of America.
