A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 89 B efore Alicia Garcia Clark became involved in politics, she prepared for a career in science by earning a Master of Science in chemistry from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. After graduating with her credentials, she began working for Celanese Mexicana, a division of the Celanese Corporation, in 1953. From then until 1970, she served in various positions at the company, beginning as a chemist and later becoming a laboratory manager and sales promotion and advertising manager. She then became involved with Liz Claiborne Inc., which in 1986 became the first company founded by a woman to make the Fortune 500 list. Her husband, Ed Clark wanted to move to Los Angeles from New York, though they had been married for just a year. She chose love over money and moved with him to California, where he ran for governor and then president. During his run for both elections, she served as her husband’s campaign English and Spanish speaker. Aside from her career in the textile industry, Mrs. Clark has served as president of the San Marino Guild of the Huntington Hospital, chairman of Celebrity Series, and a member of the Mexican Olympic Committee. She is also heavily involved in the arts as a member of the Pasadena Symphony and POPS board of advisers and managing director of the Los Angeles Opera. In the past, she was affiliated with the REDCAT Theater Council, the Guild Opera Company, the Opera League of Los Angeles, and Fashion Group International. Mrs. Clark has received many awards for her contributions to the arts, including the Star for Arts Award, a Philanthropic Leadership Award from Los Angeles Music and Art School, and the Plácido Domingo Award. She has been featured in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Politics, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women. She was also chair of the national Libertarian Party. Mrs. Clark was inspired by her father because he was always trying to do right by his family and community.
