A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 93 A pril Collins was influenced to pursue a career in leadership by interfaith leaders and teachers like Irene Yamamoto. Many of Ms. Collins’ influences helped mold her love for holistic medicine and the environment while respecting and recognizing the need for traditional medical doctors to intervene when necessary. In her younger years she was involved in many humanitarian projects. With a strong desire to improve the lives of others, she began to frequent a research center where she met many dedicated scientists. Among them was Dr. Ruby Lawson, a teacher of a prestigious science club who developed Ms. Collins’ interest in insects, though she would later set her sights on children’s needs and cancer and asthma prevention. Her dedication to these issues reached a new height through her affiliation with an organization called BirthRight, her encounter with Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, as well as her generosity in taking the babies of single mothers into her own home. Having worked in occupational therapy, Ms. Collins believes it to be a positive and rewarding field. Currently she serves as the director of The Little Angels Society (L.A.S.) and has set up a multicultural giving plan for children’s advocacy. She has shared her knowledge of the field as a published author and attributes her success to the mentors, nuns and rabbis in her life. Ms. Collins is affiliated with numerous organizations and has given back to her community in countless ways, including helpingMADA, a group that distributes milk products to children, participating in anti-bullying and social justice campaigns, and raising money to send goats to families in Kenya to remedy the widespread shortage of milk. Looking to the future, she envisions a new economic transformation and would like L.A.S. to expand substantially into philanthropy.
