160 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION R etired radiologist George B. Greenfield is a medical doctor with over five decades of experience in executing and interpreting medical images to treat diseases and injuries. Dr. Greenfield earned a Bachelor of Arts from New York University and a Doctor of Medicine from the State University of Utrecht. He began practicing as an intern at Bridgeport Hospital in 1956 and began a residency in radiology at Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Hospital a year later. Starting in 1968, he served as a radiologist at the Cook County Hospital and then chairman of the department of radiology at Mount Sinai Hospital, Chicago until 1989. He then served as a radiologist at Moffitt Cancer Hospital in Tampa, Florida, until retirement. In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Greenfield has taught at the postsecondary level for many institutions, including the University of Illinois, the Chicago Medical School and the University of South Florida, where he earned the title of professor emeritus in 2004. Dr. Greenfield has experienced many highlights in his career, including winning awards for his published writing in textbooks, including the fifth edition of Radiology of Bone Diseases. He is a fellow of the American College of Radiology and a member of the American Medical Association, the Chicago Medical Society, the Chicago Radiological Society, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Radiological Society of North America, the Institute of Medicine of Chicago and the International Skeletal Society. Attributing his success to his interest in his work and his forward-thinking nature, Dr. Greenfield would like to be remembered by his peers as a pleasant and efficient individual. In recognition of his success, he was featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World.
