A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 171 L ike many university freshmen, Dr. Robert Francis Hebert started out uncertain about a career path. Dr. Hebert took economics courses while anticipating entering law school, accelerating his coursework so that he received his bachelor’s degree in the middle of the academic year. Unable to enter law school until the fall, he faced the prospect of compulsory military service or continuing his studies in economics. He chose the latter, receiving a Bachelor of Science in 1965, a Master of Science in 1966, and a PhD in 1970 from Louisiana State University, then served as an economics instructor. Upon completion of his doctorate, he became assistant professor at Clemson University and later an associate professor at Auburn University, where he served two terms as department head and moved through the ranks to become the Russell Foundation Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies in 1987. He retired from Auburn University in 2000 and finished his teaching career as a visiting professor at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. That same year he formed his own company, RFH Consulting, Inc., of which he serves as president. While Dr. Hebert has published widely and experienced many career highlights, he is proudest of his co-written book, “Secret Origins of Micro-Economics,” published by the University of Chicago Press in 1999. This book surveys and assesses the contributions to economic theory made by the 19th-century engineers responsible for the construction and maintenance of public works in post-revolutionary France. A past member of the American Economic Association, the Southern Economic Association and the History of Economics Society, today he belongs to the National Association of Forensic Economics. His expertise is sought throughout the southeast in litigation involving forensic economics.
