A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 175 D escribed as an elegant, boutique business, Sign of the Silver Birch Music was founded in 2004 by Kathy Henkel and two other talented individuals. Ms. Henkel is mainly responsible for the many musical compositions offered by the publishing company, ranging from instrumental solos to original works for chamber ensembles. As a respected member of the artistic community, she has been invited by CUTV in New York to participate in multiple interviews. Born in 1942 in Los Angeles, California, Ms. Henkel has always had a strong desire to travel. This, coupled with her talent for music, has allowed her to develop classical pieces that have gained the appreciation of a diverse client base. Upon graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1965, Ms. Henkel took her first trip overseas. She later earned a Bachelor of Music from California State University, Northridge in 1976 and a Master of Music from the same university in 1982. It was during this time that she began working as a music researcher for Paramount Pictures and as a music reviewer for the Los Angeles Times. From there, Ms. Henkel enjoyed a varied career as a scriptwriter and producer for KUSC-FM, a classical radio station, where she was responsible for approximately 300 broadcast radio scripts. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, she lent her skills as a program annotator, education consultant and classroom speaker to the Chamber Music/LA Festival. Ms. Henkel was also involved with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra for 10 years. Following more than a decade of service as a liner note writer for Pro Piano Records in New York City, Ms. Henkel decided to branch out on her own. She has since self-published through Sign of the Silver Birch Music, which has now expanded to include works from one additional composer. She continues to serve as an educational consultant for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and as a member of the advisory board for the Los Angeles City College music department. Ms. Henkel was awarded the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. KATHY HENKEL COMPOSER Sign of the Silver Birch Music Los Angeles, CA
