16 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION N ow a certified regulatory compliance manager, Ferol Hettick had worked in financial services for more than 40 years. After several years and several jobs as director of compliance for other financial institutions, he began serving as director of compliance for TrustmarkNational Bank in 2005. Mr. Hettick received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics education from Illinois State University and has attended the ABA National Compliance School and Graduate School of Compliance Risk Management at the University of Oklahoma. As Trustmark National Bank’s director of compliance, he is responsible for reviewing and analyzing trends in the banking world, working on projects, and implementing new rules and regulations for the bank. He is motivated by his team’s success, because when his team does well, it is a direct reflection on his work. After more than 30 years in high-level compliance positions, Mr. Hettick has learned that the most difficult parts of his job are adapting to the regulatory changes and explaining to clients that these changes are not always in their best interest. However, he prides himself inbeing able to think outside of the box and work every angle possible to make positive things happen for both the company and its clients. Mr. Hettick gets immense satisfaction fromhis position and loves everything about the compliance field, including the networking opportunities that his profession provides. Mr. Hettick is affiliated with a number of organizations in order to remain up-to-date in his position, namely the Mississippi Regulatory Compliance Group, the American Bankers Association and the Mid-Size Bank Coalition of America. He is also a former member of the Regulation Steering Committee of the Financial Services Roundtable and serves on the board of directors of Christian Aid and Relief to Haitians. Looking forward, Mr. Hettick hopes to continue growing professionally and eventually retire. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, volunteering with his local church and watching college football.
