A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 187 R aymond “Ray” Breedlove Hunkins is a former Marine and law enforcement officer with over four decades of experience as a trial attorney specializing in complex litigation. Having earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wyoming in 1966 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1968, he practiced law in Wheatland, Wyoming for 44 years and for an additional four in Cheyenne. During his collegiate years, he served as a state and federal law enforcement officer and graduated from the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy. He began his legal career with Jones, Jones, Vines & Hunkins and left the firm after 42 years to become of counsel with Hunkins Newton Law in Cheyenne. He also instructed at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy for 15 years. Aside from his legal career, Mr. Hunkins’ family ranching background influenced his interest in agriculture and the livestock industry. He served as general partner of Split Rock Land & Cattle Company and owns the Thunderhead Ranches. For over three decades he has been affiliated with the Wyoming Stock Growers Association, and he is also a member of the Laramie Peak Stock Growers and the Albany County Stock Growers Association. Mr. Hunkins has been a delegate to the New York and Cleveland National Republican Conventions. He ran for governor of Wyoming twice and was the Republican nominee for that office in 2006. Currently he is writing a book with the working title “The View from Thunderhead; Reflections on the History, Culture, People and Politics of Wyoming,” composed of three parts: Reflections on Wyoming History and Culture; Reflections on Wyoming People and Politics; and Reflections on Friends and Faith. His affiliations include the American College of Trial Lawyers; the International Society of Barristers; the American Board of Trial Advocates; the American Bar Association; the Wyoming Bar Association, where he served on numerous committees and commissions; and the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association, of which he was president. He received the Wyoming State Bar Leadership Award, the Federal District Court Special Service Award, and the University of Wyoming Distinguished Alumnus Award.
