192 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION U tilizing nearly 60 years of professional experience in research and education, Dr. Stanley Jacobson has been a longtime professor in the department of anatomy at Tufts University since 1975, having formerly served the university as an associate professor and assistant professor between 1967 and 1975. Prior to these roles, he was a research associate at Northwestern University, a research biologist at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago from 1965 to 1967, and a research biologist within the division of neuroscience at the National Institutes of Health from 1963 to 1965. He commenced his career as a U.S. Public Health Service research fellow at Northwestern University for four years beginning in 1959. To prepare for his career, Dr. Jacobson pursued formal education at the University of Illinois, where he received a Bachelor of Science in zoology in 1959. Thereafter, he attended Northwestern University, earning a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in anatomy in 1961 and 1963, respectively. Throughout his career, he has maintained affiliation with several organizations in an effort to remain alert of industry changes, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Association of University Professors, the American Association of Anatomists, and the Society for Neuroscience. Dr. Jacobson was a Fulbright scholar at Makerere University in Uganda in 2011 and 2012, as well as a visiting professor at various institutions, such as the Scripps Research Institute, theWeizmann Institute of Science, the George Washington University, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. In addition, he has written articles in professional journals and co-authored four books. In recognition of his success, Dr. Jacobson was recognized with multiple Letters of Commendation for Undergraduate Teaching from Tufts University between 1993 and 2015, as well as several more Letters of Commendation for Excellence in Teaching between 1975 and 1991. A Fulbright fellow through the U.S. Department of State, he was also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has been highlighted in the eighth edition of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
