A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 253 S ohn Joo Minn has served as a design principal architect for Wega Architects since 1994 and as an urban housing research and planning consultant for Eugene Corporation since 2004. Ms. Minn’s father was involved in a series of grand mansion projects during the 1960s and 70s, which meant that her childhood playgrounds were construction sites. The busy scenes of these sites captivated her every day and sparked her interest in pursuing a career in architecture. Throughout her youth, she was able to witness a number of construction crews working together as one as buildings changed on a daily basis. To her, the construction process involves an energy almost like magic, through which space and structure are created out of nothing. Ms. Minn started her career as a simple architect, but she has since grown into a family and company life designer, as well as a community life designer. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University in 1984 and a Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1988. Since beginning her career as an architect for I.M.Pei & Partners in 1989, Ms. Minn has continued to excel in the field, serving as principal architect for Minn Sohn Joo Studio from 1991 to 1993 and as section chief architect for Sisang Architects from 1993 to 1994. Aside from her work in urban development, Ms. Minn has taught as an adjunct and assistant professor at the Kyonggi University Graduate School of Architecture and was an associate professor in the department of architectural engineering at Yonsei University. She has received many awards for her work in the field and has served on various councils with the aim of developing better urban communities for the coming generation. Some of the projects she has been an architect for include the urban community master plan of Gwang-Bok Street, Busan; the Yonsei University campus master plan; the Leeum, Samsung Art Museum and chairman’s residence complex design; and the Hyundai Development Company’s GAO Apartment Complex design.
