272 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION I nspired by his father, who was involved in the field of medicine, Dr. Durwood E. Neal Jr. commenced his career as a student at Texas Christian University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1975. He also completed a fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston the same year. After relocating to the University of Texas Health San Antonio, Dr. Neal earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1981 and completed an internship and residency at the University of Texas Medical School. He has since been licensed to practice medicine in the states of Texas, Montana, Oklahoma and Georgia and been certified in urology by the American Board of Urology. Dr. Neal’s practice focuses on pediatric urology, urologic infectious diseases and urinary stones. Currently serving as a professor at Augusta University, he has also been the chairman of urology at Southern Illinois University, the University of Missouri, and the University of Oklahoma. A former visiting professor with the Northern Mexico Urological Society, Dr. Neal has been a reviewer of 12 medical journals throughout his tenure. Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Neal has been a volunteer at the University of Oklahoma Bedlam Clinic and an attending physician for St. Vincent’s Clinic at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He also lends his time and expertise as a researcher of urinary tract infections and kidney stones. A member of the American College of Sergeants and the American Urological Association, Dr. Neal has accrued several accolades during his impressive career, including the Crimson Apple Teaching Award from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 2013.
