A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 79 STANISLAW R. BURZYNSKI, MD, PHD PRESIDENT Burzynski Clinic Houston, TX A native of Lublin, Poland, Dr. Stanislaw R. Burzynski is a distinguished figure in the fields of cancer research and biochemistry. After receiving both an MD and PhD from the Medical University of Lublin, he commenced his career as a teaching assistant and intern at the university between 1962 and 1970. Soon thereafter, he immigrated to the United States, where he was employed as a research associate with Baylor University from 1970 to 1972. Ascending the ranks, he served as an assistant professor at the university from 1972 to 1977. Since 1977 Dr. Burzynski has been in private practice in Houston, Texas, where he also hosts his own research center, the Burzynski Clinic, which was founded in 1979. He is responsible for the discovery of antineoplaston components of biological defense systems against cancer, as well as the description of ameletin, the first substance known to be responsible for sound recognition in the brains of animals. He is also renowned for inventing new treatment modalities for cancer, AIDS, viral infections, autoimmune diseases, neurofibromatosis and Parkinson’s disease, and for contributing to the gene silencing theory of aging. A former professor of neuro-oncology at Capital Medical University in Beijing, China, Dr. Burzynski attributes his success to his two mentors, Professors Marian Mazur and Georges Ungar, who both encouraged Dr. Burzynski to pursue a career in cancer research, particularly within the field of biochemistry. During his career, he has maintained affiliation with the American Medical Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Association for Cancer Research. In recognition of his exceptional achievements in medicine, Dr. Burzynski was a grantee of the National Cancer Institute and The West Foundation in the mid-1970s. Additionally, he has been highlighted in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World.
