A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 101 MICHAEL PATRICK CURRAN, FIMA DIRECTOR OF COMPUTER SERVICES (RETIRED) National University of Ireland Galway Galway, Ireland M ichael Patrick Curran has over 45 years of professional experience in the computer science field. To prepare for his career, Mr. Curran earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from the National University of Ireland Galway, formerly known as University College Galway. Mr. Curran began working as an assistant lecturer at his alma mater shortly after completing his undergraduate studies. After two years in that position, he joined the faculty of London Metropolitan University, where he was a lecturer of mathematics, senior lecturer and principal lecturer. He returned to his alma mater in 1968 as a senior lecturer and was promoted to director of computer services, serving in that position until his retirement in 2003. Mr. Curran has reached many achievements throughout his career, including earning a fellowship with the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications in 1962. Hewas the first person in Ireland to supervise a student obtaining a Master of Science in computing in 1972. In addition to teaching, he served as a consultant to International Computers Ltd., from1960 to 1963 and was a member of the governing body at the National University of Ireland Galway from 1973 to 2005. He has shared his knowledge as an author of “Topics in Group Theory and Computation,” which was published by Academic Press in 1975. Mr. Curran is a fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and itsApplications, amember of theBritishComputer Society, and one of the first members of The American Fisheries Society, as well as its secretary from 1992 to 2000.
