A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 259 W ith a strong desire to protect the environment, Dr. Rob B. Moir has gained much experience in ecosystem-based resource management. Dr. Moir serves as an educator, scientist and activist with a proven history in institutional management and marine policy success. He has led citizen efforts to clean up Salem Sound and Boston Harbor and formerly served as president of various advocacy organizations, including Salem Sound Harbor Monitors, Salem Sound Coastwatch, and Save the Harbor/Save the Bay. In addition to his many leadership positions, Dr. Moir was a curator of natural history at the Peabody Essex Museum, a curator of education at the New England Aquarium and an executive director of The Discovery Museums. Through continued hard work and dedication, Dr. Moir initiated ecosystem- based collaborative management by bringing together the six municipalities around Salem Sound with a vision for clean waters. In 2007, he founded the Ocean River Institute to educate and provide opportunities to save wildlife and protect ecosystems. Active in the creation of the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument, Dr. Moir is leading the friends group: Seamount Guardians and Deep Sea Canyon Rangers to research, make known and protect this national treasure. His career is backed by a Bachelor of Arts in natural science from Hampshire College, a Master of Science in teaching, and a PhD in environmental studies from Antioch University. As he continues to advance in his career, Dr. Moir intends to further engage citizens and families as eco-stewards to create clean and healthy environments, and attain a better quality of life for humans and wildlife. He would also like to see an increased responsible stewardship of natural resources, including oceans, rivers and watersheds, by the government. He attributes his success to his communication and organizational skills, management expertise and ability to learn from others and his own experiences. ROB B.
