A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 385 T here are more than 6,000 languages spoken throughout the world, with most of them evolving each day as popular culture influences what we say and how we say it. In today’s increasingly globalized society, companies looking to expand their operations internationally turn toprofessional interpretation and translation services, an industry that has experienced steady growth over the past decade or so. Founded in 1997, Amanuensis Traducción Técnica, Científica y Jurídica has specialized in translating patents, trademarks, dossiers and industrial documentation, as well as scientific, legal andmedical verbiage. By definition, an amanuensis is “one employed to write from diction or to copy manuscript,” so it stands to reason that employees of this organization would be committed to the accurate and timely delivery of translation services, especially Ms. Livia Villar. Having previously worked for a company that consistently provided precise, on-time translation services, Ms. Villar was inspired to carry on the legacy created by her former employer when she incorporated Amanuensis Traducción. According to her, “… becoming known as a responsible, serious and professional company in the worldwide captivating field of translation has become what keeps me firmly focused to achieve this goal.” Toward this end, in addition to overseeing operations and sourcing new business opportunities, Ms. Villar is responsible for managing client services, distributing work to 20 translators, and reviewing all documents for quality control purposes. Her expertise includes biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medicine, construction, electronics, computing, environmental services, and telecommunications. As one who is firmly grounded in her heritage (evidenced by the Mayan symbol in the company logo), Ms. Villar sees her business as an extension of herself and her connection with her ancestors. The recipient of an ISO certification, SDL Trados Studio certification, and a diploma in legal translation, Ms. Villar has taken several language courses to improve upon her skill set throughout the years. She also maintains membership in the Mexican Association of Research Ethics Committees and Asociación Vida Ecológica y Apoyo Comunitario AC, of which she is the founder.
