A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 39 M otivated by his desire to be the best leader he could be, Paul R. Alter wasted no time rising to prominence in the field of real estate law. Since being admitted to the New York State Bar Association in 1965, Mr. Alter has been trusted with several high- profile projects in New York City. He notably represented clients in the purchase of an PAUL R. ALTER, ESQ. REAL ESTATE CONSULTANT, LAWYER New York, NY office building on Park Avenue, which was the most expensive property sold in New York at the time. On another occasion, he was tasked with representing the entire Lincoln Towers community in the largest co-op conversion in the history of New York, consisting of approximately 12,000 people living in 4,000 apartments. When he began pursuing formal education at Columbia University, Mr. Alter naturally gravitated toward the field of law. He completed a JD through Cornell University in 1965 before joining a boutique real estate law firm. Although he had initially planned to become a transitional lawyer, Mr. Alter ultimately decided to follow exciting opportunities in real estate. Since then, he has headed the real estate department of three major law firms, in addition to serving as of counsel with Greenberg Traurig, LLP, from 2006 until 2015. He was largely responsible for analyzing transactions, although he has also been lauded for his ability to provide valuable insight in discussions of whether or not properties should be bought and how purchased properties should be run. Throughout his career, Mr. Alter has always taken great pride in his ability to build strong connections with both friends and colleagues. He has been featured in several editions of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law. In recent years, Mr. Alter has taken a step back from legal endeavors to focus on charity work. He was recognized as chairman of the Young Leadership Federation, now known as The Jewish Federations of North America, before accepting the role of president of the New York Association for New Americans. Outside of these roles, he continues to lend his assistance in the field of real estate on a consulting basis.
