414 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION A s the president and chief executive officer of Tom Woods, Inc., Thomas S. Woods provides a vast array of services in quality assurance and reliability to clients throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and South America. Drawing upon more than 30 years of experience training clients in statistics-based problem-solving techniques for everything from microchips to nuclear submarines, among other products, he advises his clients on quality assurance systems, product reliability, and strategies for accelerating research and development programs. Having previously worked with the innovator behind the “Red X” method of finding the root cause of variation in the manufacturing process, Dorian Shainin, Mr. Woods enlisted in the United States Air Force for three years, during which he served as a quality control project officer and improved aircraft engine quality and reliability. Mr. Woods holds a BA and MBA from Harvard University and commenced his career as a research assistant at Harvard Business School. Alongside his primary endeavors, he has been a teacher of quality assurance courses at the University of Connecticut, the University of Akron and Motorola University. Equally passionate about his community, he has maintained involvement with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars. One of the highlights of Mr. Woods’ career was having the opportunity to work with Samsung in Seoul, South Korea. Upon the completion of his appointment, accompanied by his wife and children, he viewed the Himalayan mountains and spent time in Tibet. A longtime member of the American Society for Quality, Mr. Woods is a certified management consultant through the Institute of Management Consultants and has been on the board of directors of its Chicago chapter. As a testament to his professional success, he was selected for inclusion in the 23rd edition of Who’s Who in the Midwest. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue serving his community.
