Bird study the development and function of the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord and nerve cells throughout the body. Her specialization is neuroethics, ethical issues especially associated with neuroscience. Dr. Bird earned a Bachelor of Arts in zoology and philosophy from UCLA and master’s degrees and a PhD from Yale University. She began her career with postdoctoral fellowships at Johns Hopkins and Case Western Reserve, then became a staff scientist for the Neurosciences Research Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Between 1982 and 2003 she held various appointments atMIT, ultimately serving as a special assistant to the provost and to the vice president for research. Currently, Dr. Bird is an independent consultant and co- editor-in-chief of the journal Science & Engineering Ethics, published by Springer-Nature. She is an active member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Association for Women in Science (AWIS), the International Neuroethics Society, the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics, and the Society for Neuroscience. Brookfield, NH A renowned executive throughout New York and New Hampshire, Thomas T. Beeler has amassed five decades of expertise in the publishing industry. As a child, he was fascinated by books and spent long afternoons in the library. When he got older, he became involved in the editorial processes of developing his school’s yearbook, newspaper and literary magazine. He subsequently attended Columbia University, earning a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate. Soon thereafter, he was employed by Garrett Press and G.K. Hall & Co., thereby cementing the foundation of the rest of his career. Currently a freelance writer and editor with Thomas T. Beeler Associates and the president and publisher of The Large Print Book Company, Mr. Beeler has also edited two weekly newspapers for 11 years. Outside of his publishing career, has been involved as director of his local food pantry and was formerly town selectman and chairman of the recycling committee for the community of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire.
