450 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION A s an expert in mathematical physics, Dr. Robert A. Granger has served multiple esteemed corporations and provided his expertise on such topics as spacecraft, engineering and education. After commencing his career as a senior research scientist for the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, Maryland, now defunct, he also worked as a principal engineer at Boeing in Renton, Washington, in the mid-1970s. Most notably, he served the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, as a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering for roughly 40 years until reaching emeritus status, and he has been a lecturer at the University of Cambridge since the turn of the century. Dr. Granger holds a BA from Pomona College, an MS from Drexel University, and a PhD from the University of Maryland. A contributor of more than 800 articles to venerated publications and author of more than 60 books, he most recently penned “One is Infinity” in 2007. In recognition of his exceptional achievements, he received the Euler Mathematics Prize. Similarly, due to his service in the United States Navy during the Korean War, he received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR EMERITUS The Villages, FL ROBERT A. GRANGER, PHD ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT (RETIRED) AT&T Cody, WY H aving served AT&T and multiple divisions of the company from 1961 to 1992, Michael Gibbens is an esteemed engineering executive whose dedication to his job and tenacious work ethic propelled him forward for the duration of his career. Upon earning a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California in 1961, he was recruited to work for the Pacific Telephone Company, one of AT&T’s divisions. Ascending the ranks, he transitioned to Cooperstown, New York, where he helped build the branch from the ground up until success was imminent. After acting as the assistant vice president of Pacific Bell until 1987, he subsequently transferred to Bell Communications Research, another division of AT&T, that same year until his eventual retirement in 1992. Mr. Gibbens’ drive and natural affinity for leadership was lauded by coworkers and upper management alike, both within and outside of his company. Though retired, he maintains affiliation with the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce, multiple professional and business societies, and the University of Southern California Alumni Association.
