454 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION J an Guy was first encouraged to pursue her dreams of being an occupational medicine PA by her family physician, Dr. Theodore Brooks. Since then, she’s been able to enjoy the feeling of helping others and seeing improvements in their medical conditions by becoming a physician assistant. Ms. Guy, who obtained her PA license from Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, has been administering care to patients with work-related injuries for nearly a decade, though she has over 20 years of experience backed by various degrees and time served in the U.S. Army. While she is currently pursuing a PhD in public policy and administration from Walden University, she already holds a PhD in public health, a master’s degree in forensic science, and two bachelor’s degrees, one in health science and one in Spanish. For her time in the U.S. Army, Jan has been honored with a Bronze Star Medal, a Korea Defense Service Medal, and multiple awards from the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. She is also affiliated with multiple organizations, including the California Academy of Physician Assistants and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. Guirguis has nearly four decades of experience in oncologic practices. Dr. Guirguis is responsible for inventing and patenting the Pap smear and the urine cup, as well as developing a saliva swab that detects 11 forms of cancer prior to being symptomatic, which has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. In addition to receiving an invitation to The White House to speak before Congress about his inventions, he holds patents for solutions involving cancer detection and treatment.
