468 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION I n the early 1960s, President John F. Kennedy spoke to high school seniors in the local D.C. area, encouraging them to pursue careers in government. Inspired by his words, Janet Allison LaMotte delved into government service as a clerk and typist for the U.S. Army, a procurement clerk for the Federal Aviation Administration, and an accounting clerk for the Tinker Air Force Base. Ms. LaMotte experienced a fulfilling career that spanned nearly four decades, retiring as a worldwide inventory management specialist for the Tinker Air Force Base in 1998. Ever passionate about her community, Ms. LaMotte led a petition drive and hearing in front of the Wichita Kansas City Planning Commission to have signal lights installed at three dangerous school crossings in the early 1970s. Later on, she appeared before the planning commission again to rezone single-family dwellings to multifamily dwellings. She received the Exceptional Service Award from the Gerrity chapter of the Air Force Association in 1998 and the Member of the Year Award from the Oklahoma Air Force Association in 1996.
