474 MILLENNIUM-SECOND EDITION D r. Daniel Malamud has been serving New York University for 13 years. A professor of medicine, basic sciences, craniofacial biology, and infectious diseases, he focuses his research on the development of microfluidic devices for the detection of infectious diseases, a combined screening and confirmatory test for HIV, a sensitive test for malarial DNA, and a combined RNA/antibody test for the Zika virus. His latest results on Zika have been shared nationwide, and he was interviewed by Voice of America about his findings. Inspired to pursue a career in science by a professor at his alma mater, the University of Michigan, Dr. Malamud holds a BS in biology, an MA and a PhD in cell biology. He also received an honorary master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983. Utilizing five decades of professional experience, he has contributed myriad articles to journals and chapters to books. As a testament to his success, he received the Basic Science Teaching Award, the Research Career Development Award and the Lindback Teaching Award.
