A Marquis Who's Who Magazine 49 W illiam P. Barlow Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps and became a certified public accountant in the state of California, although it wasn’t always his first career choice. Before preparing assets, liability and capital account entries, he considered mathematics and law. In the end, he realized that accounting was the best choice for him. He joined his father’s firm, Barlow, Davis & Wood, in 1960 and worked his way up to become partner of the firm in 1964. He continued to gain prominence in the field as partner of J.K. Lasser & Company and Touche Ross & Company. From 1978 to 1989 he was in business for himself, and in 1990 he formed a partnership with Wade Hughan. The firm, Barlow & Hughan LLP, specializes in accounting and tax services. Throughout his career, Mr. Barlow has met the needs of individuals and their businesses with a focus on real estate investments, construction and home building. His service with the Oakland Ballet Company; Friends of The Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley; and Gleeson Library Associates at the University of San Francisco has led to his interest in the complexities of charitable contributions of personal property. Additionally, he has served as an editor and co-author of many books and contributed articles to professional journals. Aside from his work as an accountant, Mr. Barlow, like his father, is an avid collector of stamps and 16th, 17th and 18th- century books. He is also the principal collector of works by John Baskerville, the 18th-century English printer. His status as a bibliophile has earned him much recognition, including the Hubert Howe Bancroft Award from the University of California, Berkeley, and the Sir Thomas More Medal from Gleeson Library Associates. Mr. Barlow was also named to the United States and International Water Ski Halls of Fame. WILLIAM P. BARLOW JR. ACCOUNTANT Barlow & Hughan, LLP San Francisco, CA
