He has published original peer-reviewed research papers, reviews and book chapters. He was also an adjunct professor at New Mexico State University for over two decades, elected to and served on the board of directors of the American Board of Toxicology, and elected to and serves on the board of directors of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences. He also served the Society of Toxicology in numerous capacities, including as founding president of the Molecular Biology Specialty Section, president of the Metals Specialty Section and president of the Northwest Regional Chapter. Dr. Kelman was recognized with Best Paper Awards from the Society of Toxicology, American Industrial Hygiene Association, and an Award of Merit from the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine. Dr. Bruce Jerry Kelman graduated from the University of Illinois UrbanaChampaign, receiving a BS in 1969, MS in 1971 and PhD in 1975. He joined the University of Tennessee at Oak Ridge in 1974, completed a postdoctoral study of toxicology and was then appointed assistant professor. He joined the Developmental Toxicology Section at Battelle Northwest Laboratory (PNL, now Pacific Northwest National Laboratory), and remained with PNL for more than a decade, becoming manager of the Biology and Chemistry Department and of the International Toxicology Office at Battelle Memorial Institute. He then served as Managing Scientist at Failure Analysis Associates, Inc., and National Director of Health and Environmental Sciences at Golder Associates, Inc. In 1998, he founded GlobalTox, Inc. (later renamed Veritox, Inc.), building it from a staff of four to 52 before selling the company to J.S. Held, LLC in 2019. Dr. Kelman is employed at J.S. Held as a Senior Vice President and Principal Toxicologist.
