139 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine H ailing from a family of nursing professionals, Tracy I. Lanes is a selfless, compassionate nurse anesthetist who thoroughly enjoys taking care of people and ensuring optimal health and well-being. She has been a nurse anesthetist since 2007 at Washington University in St. Louis, where she administers anesthetics for surgery and other medical procedures. She is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and holds a BS in nursing from the University of Missouri, an MS in nursing from the University of New Mexico, and a nurse anesthesia postmaster’s certificate from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. A former U.S. Army Reserve and U.S. Air Force Reserve veteran, Ms. Lanes retired in 2017 after 22 years of service. As a veteran, she previously worked as a nurse and nurse anesthetist for veterans’ hospitals. A student coordinator for the Goldfarb School of Anesthesia, she maintains membership with school committees, Sigma Theta Tau, and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. She attributes her success to her dedication and commitment to the field, as well as her goal-oriented nature and love for the job. NURSE ANESTHETIST Washington University in St. Louis Maryland Heights, MO W itnessing his grandmother struggle with glaucoma as a young child, Dr. Gary C. Brown desired to practice medicine to improve individuals’ quality of life. At the inception of his career in 1981, he was a physician at Mid Atlantic Retina inWyndmoor, Pennsylvania. From there, he became a director and chief of retina service at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, retiring from his position as chief in 2013. Since 2005, he has remained chief medical officer and director of comparative effectiveness and pharmacoeconomics at the Center for Value-Based Medicine. Holding a Bachelor of Science from Colgate University, MD from SUNY Upstate Medical Center and MBA from St. Joseph’s University, Dr. Brown interned at Grady Hospital before completing a residency and fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital. During his tenure, he authored or co-authored 11 medical texts, three novels and over 500 science papers. He additionally edited “Current Science in Ophthalmology” from 1992 to 2009. In recognition of his service, he has been named among the Top Ophthalmologists in the U.S. and one of America’s Best Doctors.
