166 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY R esearch scientists like William George DeMott Frederick are involved in planning and conducting experiments and analyzing results to either find a solution to a problem or broaden their general knowledge. Dr. Frederick, who has dedicated over 50 years to his field, received a Bachelor of Science in engineering from the University of Toledo. He soon after began his professional career as a physicist for the Air Force Materials Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio. During his time there, he continued to ignite his passion for research and obtained a Master of Science in physics from the University of Dayton, a PhD in materials science from the University of Cincinnati, and a Master of Science in management from MIT. In 1983, Dr. Frederick left the laboratory and became a staff specialist in early warning, air defense and attack assessment for the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington. He continued to make headway in the science field working at many other research facilities as director of sensor technology, assistant deputy for technology, chief scientist, deputy for special projects, corporate vice president, and executive director. The highlight of Dr. Frederick’s career was working with the research team at the Air Force Materials Laboratory to develop a permanent magnetic material, which was applied to Air Force electronics. Dr. Frederick has imparted his scientific expertise in the form of a handbook titled “Strategic Defense Initiative Launch Phenomenology” and contributed many articles to professional journals. He remains abreast of the ever-changing science field as a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, from which he received the Strategic Defense Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995, the National Space Society, and the Military Sensing Symposium. Dr. Frederick has received many accolades for his work, including the John A. Jamieson Memorial Award for Sensors, Environments, and Algorithms from the Military Sensing Symposium in 2001. He was also selected for inclusion in the 71 st edition of Who’s Who in America in 2018.
