147 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D emonstrating an affinity for debate and civil service from a young age, Joseph Peter Drennan always had a keen sense of fortitude that has since propelled him forward throughout his career. After earning a BA in political science, cum laude, from the University of Richmond and JD from the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, he founded his own private practice in 1981, where he practices in the areas of appellate litigation, bankruptcy law, criminal law, intellectual property, immigration law, and libel and slander litigation. He also practices litigation on behalf of victims of terrorism under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, as well as defends and prosecutes claims under the Alien Tort Claims Act and the Torture Victims Protection Act. Rives Childs, who hosted a distinguished career of over 30 years in the U.S. Foreign Service. Alongside his primary appointments, Mr. Drennan has been a frequent presenter of continuing legal education seminars and has taught courses in law at Germanna Community College and the University of Baltimore. In his spare time, he also sits on the board of visitors of the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law and has been judging moot court competitions for over three decades. Most recently, he spoke at the Bangkok District Chapter Conference with the American Immigration Lawyers Association in Thailand in 2019. To remain current with industry developments, Mr. Drennan maintains affiliation with several organizations, including the American Association for Justice, the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the American Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Waterville Historical Society, where he is a lifetime member.
