108 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENTREPRENEURS D etermined to start his own business from a young age, David G. Reed was inspired by his great-grandfather, who was also a successful entrepreneur. Drawing upon an AA in business administration from Diablo Valley College, and a BA in design and industry and MBA in marketing from San Francisco State University, Mr. Reed commenced his career as the owner of Western Furs Ltd. in Walnut Creek, California, in 1963, where he headed the company for nearly a decade. During the course of his career, he served as a management consultant for myriad corporations throughout California, Texas, Oregon, Washington State, New York, Illinois and Toronto, Canada, as well as a manufacturing engineer for eight years. He also founded Dave Reed & Company in Walnut Creek, California, in 1965, where he has been a lecturer on wildlife management, a financial manager and owner of a water skiing school and boat manufacturer. Among his notable achievements, Mr. Reed prides himself on maintaining an uncompromising sense of integrity throughout his life, which has been very rewarding. As both an inventor and manager, he is renowned for his “out of the box” thinking and credits his upbringing as an influence to his success. Demonstrating versatility in his profession, he is also a certified reserve police officer who served the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department for three years following his dedicated service to the U.S. Army in Vietnam. In recognition of his military service, he was named Combat Soldier of the Month by the 11th Aviation Battalion and 74th Aviation Company in February of 1971. In his spare time outside of work, Mr. Reed is an avid water skier and enjoys surfing, camping and fly-fishing. As a testament to his talent in water skiing, he was twice named a California State Water Ski Champion in 1977 and 1986 and a Western Region Water Ski Champion. Likewise, he won a Silver Medal in the National Water Ski Championships in 1977 and later received a Gold Medal in the International Freestyle Wrestling Senior Olympics in Fullerton, California, in 1983.
