H arold Arthur Linden initially studied toward becoming a mechanical engineer. However, upon the realization that he disliked mathematics, he decided to delve into his passion: art. Finding that interior design was the fusion of psychology, engineering and art, he discovered that design was both creative and fulfilling. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in art from the City College of New York, he served as the office manager of Samson Berman Associates, soon working for Robert I. Kasindorf. He also became the owner of Mobili Internazionale Ltd. in 1964, a position he held until 1991. During this time, he was also the merchandising manager for International Home and received a Master of Arts in design from the City University of New York. Since 2000, he has been the owner of New York Design. Mr. Linden was the designer of the Stonybrook House in Matamoras, Pennsylvania, the first mortarless masonry home in the United States. He cites Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a German-American architect who designed the world’s first skyscraper, as a formative influence.
