121 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS D r. Samuel Thomas Bartle became curious about medicine during his youth and entered the profession intending to improve standards of care for children. He attended the University of Alabama, where he earned a BS in 1986. Thereafter, he received an MD from the University of South Alabama and completed a pediatrics internship and residency at the University of Tennessee in 1992 and 1994, respectively. After completing his residency, Dr. Bartle served as a general pediatrician for the HealthFirst Medical Group in Memphis, Tennessee, from 1994 to 1995 before serving as a physician with Mid-South Pediatrics Emergency Specialists from 1995 to 1997. He then obtained additional education in his profession, working as a fellow in pediatric emergency medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1997 to 2000. Since 2000, he has had the pleasure of serving as an assistant professor in pediatric emergency medicine at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. A diplomate of the American Board of Medicine since 1986, Dr. Bartle has been involved in the development and advocacy of legislation ensuring that children receive immunizations. He has additionally taken great satisfaction in educating young physicians in the early stages of their careers, teaching methods that cannot be learned frommerely reading a textbook. During his career, Dr. Bartle has maintained active involvement with the American Academy of Pediatrics, having served as a board director and delegate of the Virginia chapter, president, and chairman of legislative and governmental affairs. The organization has honored him with the Special Achievement Award, the Legislative Achievement Award, and the Fellowship in Advocacy Training Award. He also maintains fellowship with the academy and membership with the University of Alabama Alumni Association. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Bartle was born in October 1963 and is the proud father of two sons, Christopher and Andrew. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, art, camping and woodworking. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue seeing patients and helping pediatric care become integrated with other types of medicine.
