122 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS continued to serve Cornell as adjunct professor of cardiovascularmedicine in cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Borer has published more than 500 peer- reviewed articles and book chapters and eight books, and has served on many editorial boards. He holds a BA from Harvard University and an MD fromWeill Cornell Medicine, and was a senior Fulbright-Hays scholar and Glorney Raisbeck fellow in the medical sciences in the Cardiac Department of Guy’s Hospital at the University of London. He has been advisor to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for 42 years, having served four terms as chair of Advisory Committees (Cardio-Renal and Cardiovascular Devices), activities that greatly influence public health in the United States. Earlier in his career, Dr. Borer trained at Massachusetts General Hospital and spent seven years in the Cardiology Branch of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health. D r. Jeffrey S. Borer is a world-renowned physician who was named among the top one percent of physicians by the U.S. News & World Report. He is nationally and internationally acclaimed for his research contributions, most importantly the development of real-time radionuclide cineangiography and its application during exercise, allowing doctors to unmask heart abnormalities not apparent with patients at rest. Such testing profoundly changed the way diagnosis and prognostication occur in cardiology. He applied this technology to coronary artery disease and particularly to heart valve diseases to enhance selection of treatment for individual patients. Dr. Borer has served the SUNY Downstate Medical University in Brooklyn, New York, (across the street from his high school and in the neighborhood of his youth) in multiple capacities since arriving in 2008. He is a professor of medicine, public health, surgery, cell biology and radiology, as well as chair of the Schiavone Cardiovascular Translational Research Institute and the Howard Gilman Institute of Heart Valve Disease. He previously served as chairman of the Department of Medicine and chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.
