148 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT F rank L. Farrar commenced his career as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service in 1955, later becoming a judge for Marshall County, South Dakota, in 1958. Remaining in private practice in Britton, South Dakota, for six years, he also served as a state’s attorney for Marshall County from 1959 to 1962 and attorney general of the state of South Dakota from 1962 to 1969. He became the governor of South Dakota in 1969, holding the role for two years before founding the law firm Farrar & Spiry in 1970. With more than 60 years of experience in his field, he remains in an executive position today. Mr. Farrar is the recipient of a BS and LLB from the University of South Dakota, as well as an honorary LLD from Huron University. Previously active with the U.S. Army Reserves during in the Korean War, he served to 1978. Alongside his primary endeavors, he has served as chair of multiple entities, including Cardinal & Gold Insurance Company, Frank L. Farrar & Associates, Northwest Investment, Inc., and People’s Holding Company. Civically involved as well, he has contributed to the March of Dimes, the South Dakota Mental Health Association, the Marshall County Republican Party, and the Republican National Convention, for which he served as an assistant sergeant-at-arms in 1960. He is a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, having been an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Beaver, the highest honor in scouting. Equally passionate about physical fitness, Mr. Farrar has participated in 36 Ironman Triathlons, starting his fitness journey at the age of 65. Since then, he has impressively completed 375 triathlons. In recognition of his accomplishments, he was named Senior Olympics Athlete of the Year for South Dakota. In addition, he was inducted into the Senior Olympics Hall of Fame for South Dakota. Mr. Farrar is a member of the South Dakota Bar Association and former assistant president of the South Dakota State’s Attorneys Association. He has five children and eight grandchildren. A celebrated Marquis listee since 1986, he has been featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in the World, among others. FRANK L.
