164 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY D r. Earl R. Beaver has established an impressive career as a chemical engineer. Currently a managing partner and chief executive officer of Practical Sustainability LLC in Chesterfield, Missouri, since 1999, he previously served Monsanto Company for 30 years. In that role, he was responsible for the development of new environmental technology solutions and eco-efficiency tools, advocacy for sustainability and pollution prevention. He retired from Monsanto in 1999 after serving as director of waste elimination. Practical Sustainability LLC was founded in 1999 as an innovative company specializing in laboratory research and process development. With a focus on creating new ways to better the earth’s environment, the company’s motto is “Think Global, Think Green.” Located on the Northwest Missouri State University campus, Practical Sustainability has several types of equipment to serve the environment, including machines that perform elementary characterization, spectroscopy, thermal techniques and particle measurement. The chair emeritus of the Institute for Sustainability, Dr. Beaver has also served as director of the North American Alliance of Chemical Engineers in New York City since the turn of the century. Dr. Beaver was the director of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers from 2000 to 2003, which he cites as a highlight of his career. He is chair emeritus of the Center forWaste Reduction Technologies and director of the National Environmental Technology Institute. Dr. Beaver has written for several publications and holds several patents in relation to nylon production. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and member emeritus of the American Chemical Society. In 1994, he was honored with the Lawrence K. Cecil Award in Environmental Chemical Engineering and the Gary Leach Recognition Award, both from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. In addition, he was highlighted in the eighth edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. Married to Lois V. Plumlee since 1966, Dr. Beaver is the proud father of two children and has seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He enjoys model railroading in his spare time. EARL R.
