167 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY I nitially interested in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Robert Z. Gussin discovered his passion for medical research and subsequently became involved in scientific research on drug interactions and development. He commenced his career as a research associate at Lederle Laboratories from 1967 to 1969, then continued with the organization as a group leader in the department of cardiovascular renal pharmacology from 1969 to 1973. He later served as the executive director of research, vice president of the research division, vice president of research and development, and vice president of science affairs for McNeil Laboratories between 1974 and 1986. Concluding his pharmacology career in 2000, he held the role of corporate vice president and chief scientific officer of Johnson & Johnson for 14 years. In retirement, Dr. Gussin has followed his love for fiction as the chief executive officer of Oceanview Publishing, a publishing company dedicated to promoting mystery, thriller and suspense novels. Since its founding, the company has published more than 200 books by 75 authors. As a testament to his success in this arena, he and his wife received the Thriller Legend Award from International Thriller Writers in 2018. He has also authored several books under his own name alongside his wife, which can be found on Amazon. Among his notable achievements, Dr. Gussin cites the highlight of his career to be receiving the National Medal of Technology and Innovation in 1996 in recognition of his exceptional talents in medical research. He has maintained affiliation with the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, the American Society of Nephrology, the American Federation for Medical Research, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In his spare time, Dr. Gussin enjoys tending to his two vineyards located in Marlborough on the southern island of New Zealand. He harvests sauvignon blanc, pinot noir and chardonnay grapes to make wine offered at the Villa Maria Winery, the most awarded winery in New Zealand.
