169 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine S arah Mook has been interested in the medical industry since she was a child and dedicated her career to research and development. Influenced by her mother, an intelligent individual who knew both English and Latin when she immigrated to the United States, Ms. Mook commenced her career as a cartographic aide with the United States Geological Survey of the Department of the Interior in 1952, holding this role for two years. For the following three years, she served as a research assistant for the Columbia University Mineral Beneficiation Laboratory, and she later became an analytical chemist in the nuclear division of Combustion Engineering, Inc. During her career, she also contributed her expertise to Radiation Applications, Inc.; the Marks Polarized Corporation; Nuclear Research Associates, Inc.; and Coney Island Hospital. She concluded her career in 1995 after serving as both an associate chemist and principal chemist at Bellevue Hospital Center, beginning in 1974. In her local community, Ms. Mook has donated her time to multiple boards and committees at Coney Island Hospital, as well as the Women’s Christian Fellowship. Among her notable achievements, she is most proud of being published in multiple analytical chemistry journals and being cited in chemistry abstracts. In order to remain abreast of developments within her field, she has been affiliated with the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Chemical Society. In light of all of her accomplishments, Ms. Mook has garnered several accolades. She received a Certificate of Recognition from Coney Island Hospital, a Marjorie Matthews Community Advocate Recognition Award from the New York City Council, and a Woman of the Year Humanitarian Award from the New York State Senate. She was also named Woman of the Year by the New York City Council and presented with the Margaret M. McCord Woman of the Year Memorial Award from the Brooklyn Historical Society and a Distinguished Leadership in Community Award from the Office of the New York City Comptroller.
