180 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine J anet Mae Micklos commenced her career as a physical education teacher at various schools across Texas and California. Focusing her teachings on the complexities of sexual assault, she subsequently transitioned into the realm of victim advocacy as director of the Alamo Area Rape Crisis Center in San Antonio, Texas, in 1986. From there, Ms. Micklos relocated to New Hampshire, where she excelled in her roles of psychiatric counselor at the Portsmouth Pavilion (now known as Portsmouth Regional Hospital) and human services director at the Rockingham County Department of Corrections, a role she fulfilled for 20 years until her retirement in 2009. In her position, Ms. Micklos initiated an intensive program to expose inmates to the initial and long-term devastating effects of crime on their victims with the hope that fact-based reflection would deter recidivism. Involved in working with offenders in light of her desire to bring grounded understanding to the population, she continues to serve on prison ministry teams to regional youth detention centers and on church mission trips to Mozambique, Africa. Prior to her retirement, she served on the New Hampshire Sex Offender Management Advisory Committee. Believing that each person owns unique qualities that can aid in their recovery, she has an innate sense of compassion for her clients that has propelled her forward as a prominent figure in mental health. From1990 until her retirement in 1993, Ms. Brown was amental health coordinator for Services to Homeless Families, where she conducted psychotherapy sessions with individuals and families. She has served communities in New York for the entirety of her career as a social worker and psychotherapist for multiple clinics, and was also a faculty member at Hunter College and New York University in the late 1970s. A longtime member of the National Association of Social Workers, Ms. Brown helped establish a Spanish-speaking group for teenage girls to obtain pregnancy education and prenatal care for NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst.
