69 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I nitially interested in theology, Dr. Michael A. Whitehead was unable to pursue his intended program as he was not fluent in Latin or Greek. Instead deciding to pursue the sciences, another passion, he received a BS in chemistry, with honors, from Queen Mary University of London in 1956, where he served as an assistant lecturer from 1958 to 1960. During this time, he also earned a PhD in theoretical chemistry, spectroscopy and nuclear quadrupoles from the university in 1960. Obtaining a Fulbright fellowship to the University of Cincinnati, he subsequently relocated to the United States, where he served the university as an assistant professor in 1961. At this time, he began his longstanding tenure at McGill University in Montreal, first as an assistant professor of theoretical chemistry for four years and then as an associate professor for the following eight years. From 1974 until attaining emeritus status in 1999, he served as a full professor. He also received a DSc fromQueen Mary University of London in 1974. Since 2005, Dr. Whitehead has served the Centre for Research in Molecular Modeling at Concordia University in Montreal. He has been a visiting Erskine fellow at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, a visiting professorial fellow and visiting professor at the University of Oxford in England, and an invited professor at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. A lifetime guest professor at the National University of Defense Technology in China, he is further a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Chemical Institute of Canada and the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce. Dr. Whitehead is the recipient of the 2013 Evan Ferguson Award from Sigma Xi. He has been serving as editor of The Evangelist at the Church of St. John the Evangelist since 2013 and has contributed myriad articles to professional journals during his tenure.
