Wood was a fellow of the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture in 1964. In 1966, he served as an assistant professor at Harvard University before relocating to the University of Michigan, where he was an associate professor. From there, Dr. Wood began his tenure at Brown University, where he served as a professor of history from 1969 until his retirement in 2008. Throughout his career, Dr. Wood has been a lecturer at the U.S. Naval Academy, New York University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Baylor University. Contributing myriad publications since 1960, he is most renowned for his dissertation, “The Creation of the American Republic, 1997-1787,” which is now a highly cited resource for students. As a testament to his success, Dr. Wood has accrued numerous accolades, notably winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1993.
