Peter Lewis Kranz is a renowned psychologist and educator who has been serving as a professor of educational psychology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley since 2013. Accruing more than 50 years of experience in the field, he previously served the university as an associate professor and assistant professor. Prior to these appointments, he was employed by such prominent universities as Florida Atlantic University, Tennessee Technological University, Lock Haven University, the University of North Florida and Eckerd College, where he excelled as a director of counseling services. He also dedicated many years to mental health work. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Grinnell College and Master of Science in psychology and PhD in child psychology from Utah State University, Dr. Kranz is also a graduate of the Merrill Palmer Institute and Duquesne University. From 1967 to 1968, he served an internship in clinical psychology at the Oklahoma Medical Center. During his career, Dr. Kranz has been lauded for his expertise in race relations, having performed public speaking in universities. Invited to present at several professional conferences, he also spends his spare time conducting research for professional seminars andmaintaining involvement in campus activities and university committees. Among the highlights of his career, he is proudest of being involved with the creation of a course titled Human Conflict: Black and White. Established at the University of North Florida during the beginning of race integration in the 1970s, the course was chronicled in the book “An Arena of Truth: Conflict in Black and White” by author Terence Clarke. It was published in March 2019 and is available in bookstores and on Amazon. In light of his outstanding contributions to education, Dr. Kranz was honored with an Outstanding Alumni Award from Grinnell College, a Distinguished Research Award from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and an Alumni Merit Award from Utah State University. Likewise, he won second place for the Winifred Overholser Prize, which is presented annually to the two best research papers by trainees at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
