34 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION has contributed numerous articles to professional journals and edited multiple books regarding philosophical thought and history. In addition, he maintains affiliation with several organizations, such as the American Philosophical Association; theMetaphysical Society of America; the American Associationof UniversityProfessors; theWisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters; and several honor societies. A Ford Foundation grantee from 1963 to 1964, a Wisconsin State University Regents research grantee from1971 to 1972, and a Sabbatical grantee in 1987, Dr. Burr has been highlighted in multiple Who’s Who publications, including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in the Midwest. One of the most gratifying aspects of his teaching career, however, is igniting his students’ interest in philosophical subject matter. Married to Marjorie Jean Bakirakis since 1963, Dr. Burr has three children and one granddaughter. He enjoys acting in his spare time. I nterested in philosophy from an early age, particularly the writings of Bertrand Russell, Dr. John Roy Burr is a prominent educator who has amassed nearly 60 years of industry experience. He most recently served as a professor of philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 1968 until attaining emeritus status in 2018 and also acted as chairman of the department of philosophy. Additionally, Dr. Burr was a JohnMcNaughton Rosebush university professor, chairman of the university academy policies committee, president of the faculty senate, and assistant dean of letters and science. Prior to commencing his career with the prestigious institution in 1964 as a faculty member in the department of philosophy, he held roleswithHood College and Franklin & Marshall College beginning in 1959. Dr. Burr holds a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an MA and PhD from ColumbiaUniversity.
