35 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION S upported by over one decade of practiced experience in English education, Bonnie Mae Hawkins Capehart is a passionate teacher, who previously taught in a junior high school setting at Bonita Vista Middle School in Chula Vista, California, beginning in 2006. She also served the junior high school as a mathematics support teacher from 2008 to 2010, Advanced Via Individual Determination (AVID) coordinator in 2007 and newspaper advisor from 2006 to 2010. Recently retiring, she started out as an English teacher and AVID coordinator at Southwest Middle School in San Diego in 1999, holding these positions for seven years. AVID is a college readiness program designed to aid students in developing skills they need to attain success in college. Placing emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills, the program was founded in 1980 in San Diego. A certified teacher in the state of California, Ms. Capehart draws upon a Bachelor of Arts in applied arts and sciences from San Diego State University and a Master of Arts in teaching from National University in San Diego. To remain abreast of industry developments, she maintains affiliation with numerous societies, including the National Education Association, the California Teachers Association and the National Council of Teachers of English. Likewise, she is also a member of the Tennessee Genealogical Society and San Diego Genealogical Society. Married to David Harold Capehart since 1992, Ms. Capehart is the proud mother of one son, Robert James Holmer. She also has six grandchildren. Currently residing in Santee, California, she thoroughly enjoys studying genealogy, reading, gardening, and practicing photography in her spare time. As a testament to her profound success in her field, she was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
