A pioneering innovator in teaching, he developed interactive exercises that considerably broadened management education and prepared people to take action in the world and deal with the complexity of international business. Dr. Linowes was honored with a Fulbright Fellowship for Pedagogical Innovation and helped define the Baldrige National Quality Award for Education. However, he cites the highlight of his career to be his participation in the inaugural meeting of the Kogod Alumni Network of Greater NewYork, surrounded by former students, as well as his extensive travels working with companies and former students around the world. Married to Elisa M. Gropper since 2000, Dr. Linowes has four children: Selia, Jeremiah, Dahlia and Nathaniel. He holds a BA in cybernetics from Princeton University, MS in computer and communication sciences from the University of Michigan, and DBA from Harvard University. D riven by the mission statement “Build Enlightened Leaders,” Dr. Richard G. Linowes is an educator in the Washington, D.C., area who specializes in teaching and research of international business, quality management and cross-cultural relations. Until recently the Kogod Outstanding Professor of Undergraduate Programs in the Kogod School of Business at American University, he first immersed himself in teaching because of his desire to prevent unethical behavior in the business world. He launched his career in 1974 working inside Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. in Osaka, Japan, prior to joining Arthur Andersen & Co. as a senior systems analyst. He then entered the Harvard Business School as a research assistant between 1978 and 1982, earning his doctorate and becoming a consultant with Goldman Sachs from 1983 to 1986. He then turned to teaching to convey the lessons of experience and develop people of high integrity for the business world. After 33 years of teaching at American University, Dr. Linowes is now the founding professor and president of Clarewood University, which began operations in 2016 and where his teaching innovations shape the curriculum. He has been a visiting professor at Ritsumeikan University in Japan, Tel Aviv University in Israel, University of Warsaw in Poland and University of Waikato in New Zealand. He also served as DR.
