14 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT N ancy Garfield-Woodbridge emerged as a writer in 1955 after earning a BA in literature from Bennington College on a full-tuition scholarship. She then earned an MS in education from Hofstra University in 1972 and did postgraduate work at the same university. Ms. Garfield-Woodbridge began her career as an editorial assistant with TheWenner-Gren Foundation, where she worked on several publications, including the “Directory of Anthropological Institutions” and “Man’s Role in Changing the Face of the Earth.” From 1958 to 1972, Ms. Garfield-Woodbridge was the vice president of Information Retrieval Systems and editor-in-chief of The Gifted Child Magazine. She later served as research associate to the vice president and editor at the New York Institute of Technology. After that, she was director of special projects for Girl Scouts of the USA for nearly 30 years. Ms. Garfield- Woodbridge has authored many books and most recently began publishing children’s books again. She is most interested in writing books that explore themes of diversity. Ms. Garfield-Woodbridge wrote her first book in 1968, titled “The Tuesday Elephant.” She also wrote “The Dancing Monkey,” “Juvenile Justice,” “Poems in Exile,” “A Bouquet of Fairy Tales,” “Hilary and the Secret Skulls,” “Journey,” “If I Had $1,500, I Would Clean My Karma,” “Stories from Around the World,” “More Stories from Around the World,” “Arctic Butterfly,” “The Islanders,” “Shanti Means Peace,” “The Rainbird,” “The Honey Hunt,” “Gideon’s Dream,” “Moonbeam Flowers” and “The Magic Paintbrush.” “Sons of Darkness” is due for publication in 2020. A certified kindergarten through eighth-grade teacher and seventh- through ninth-grade English teacher in the state of New York, Ms. Garfield-Woodbridge has celebrated many accomplishments during her career. She was offered a scholarship to the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference in Vermont in 1967 and was a speaker for the Vice President’s Task Force on Youth Employment in 1979. Ms. Garfield-Woodbridge is a member of the Academy of American Poets, The Authors Guild, the Milford Arts Council, and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
