47 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION J udy A. Immel has dedicated 30 years to the teaching profession. Currently retired, she most recently served as a teacher at Downey Adult School, where she started in 1988. She was previously a teacher for the Los Angeles County Office of Education from1993 to 2010, Garey High School from 1992 to 1993, and Puente Hills High School from 1990 to 1992. Earlier in her career, she was a teacher for Whittier Adult School and the North Orange County Community College District from 1988 to 1990. A former adjunct professor at the University of San Diego, she has also been an interior designer in California since 1978. Ms. Immel is a certified elementary, secondary, postsecondary and adult teacher in the state of California, and she holds credentials in secondary administration. At the inception of her career, she attended California State Polytechnic University, earning a BS in home economics in 1984 and an MEd in 1988. During this time, she was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and the Golden Key National Honor Society. Affiliated with the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, formerly known as the American Home Economics Association, Ms. Immel has edited newsletters for the Home Economics Alumni Association. Additionally, she served as an advisor for the Home Economics Designated Subjects Credential Board in Pomona, California, from 1990 to 1992. Equally passionate about civic outreach, she is the District Six cultural director of the Sons of Norway. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to education, Ms. Immel was highlighted in the fourth edition of Who’s Who in American Education. However, she cites being a positive role model for underserved students as one of the most rewarding aspects of her career. Ms. Immel was once informed that she was the reason a former student had attended college. Such instances continue to provide her with inspiration and feelings of fulfillment. JUDY A.
