50 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION D r. Charles C. Kolb was the senior program officer for the initiatives Rediscovering Afghanistan and Recovering Iraq’s Past. These projects provided financial assistant to American universities, libraries and museums to preserve the cultural heritage of counterpart institutions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Prior to these appointments, he served the National Endowment for the Humanities in multiple capacities, including as a former senior program officer, program officer in the division of preservation and access, and humanities administrator and programofficer in the division of state programs. Involved in academia earlier in his career, he servedMercyhurst College, nowMercyhurst University, as the assistant director of the Hammermill Library and director of research and grants. Likewise, he was an instructor and assistant professor of anthropology at The Pennsylvania State University, as well as an instructor of anthropology at Bryn Mawr College. Overall, he has been in the field for 48 years. Dr. Kolb holds a BA in history and a PhD in archaeology and anthropology from The Pennsylvania State University. He has been the co-organizer of the Ceramic Studies Interest Group for many years, as well as a grant proposal reviewer for the National Geographic Society, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, theWenner-Gren Foundation and the National Science Foundation. He has also been a manuscript reviewer for numerous publishing companies dating back to 1977. Demonstrating versatility in his field, he has authored and edited several texts, having recently contributed to the first and second editions of the “Encyclopedia of Global Archaeology” in 2014 and 2018. To remain abreast of developments in the field, he is a lifetime member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, where he is also a fellow, and the American Anthropological Association. In light of his outstanding undertakings, Dr. Kolb received an Excellence in Teaching Award from The Pennsylvania State University. However, he cites a career highlight as being afforded the opportunity to teach many students at the undergraduate level. Many of his students have gone on to become anthropologists and teachers.
