62 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine W illiam D. Siarny became involved in his profession due to his desire to learn unconditionally. Finding that libraries are the ideal way to educate oneself infinitely and help others by not being constrained by classroom or educational rules, he has thoroughly enjoyed guiding individuals in finding the information they need. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts from DePaul University and Master of Library Science from the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences at Dominican University, he commenced his career in 1960 at the Northwestern Medical Library, staying with the institution for 10 years. After receiving a master’s degree in 1974, he served as an assistant librarian for the National Dairy Council in Rosemont, Illinois, until 1979 before becoming the library director of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association in Chicago until 1980. Since 1980, he has been a prominent archivist and librarian for the American Meat Science Association in Chicago. Alongside his primary career responsibilities, Mr. Siarny has been the coordinator of the Illinois Health Libraries Consortium in Chicago since 1975, having previously sat as chairman of the map workshop committee for the Illinois Documents Libraries in Chicago in 1973. Passionate about community involvement, he is a past chairman of the Troop Committee of the Boy Scouts of America in River Forest, Illinois, and both chairman of the Pack Committee and religious education teacher of the Ascension Parish in Oak Park, Illinois. He is also a U.S. Army Reserve veteran, serving from 1965 to 1974, and a former editor of the American Meat Science Association Production (Microfilm Edition) in 1983. The recipient of certificates in organization management and library automation, Mr. Siarny served Northwestern University at the inception of his career, which influenced the outcome of his livelihood. To remain abreast of industry developments, he has maintained affiliation with the bylaws committee of the Medical Library Association, the American Library Association, the Special Libraries Association, the Society of American Archivists, and the Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA) International, among others.
