64 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION journals, authoring an autobiography entitled “Reinventing Myself: Memoirs of a Retired Professor” in the 1990s. She also penned “Senior Writing” and “Elder Expectations: My Life in Rictameters,” a book of poetry. Most recently, she was the editor of The Resident Newsletter, a local newsletter in her region. She especially enjoys reading English literature of the 19th century, traveling, attending the opera and listening to classical music. In recognition of her exceptional contributions to education, Ms. Styne received the Outstanding Community College Faculty Award from the Illinois Community College Trustees Association and an Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, both in 1996. She was also highlighted in the 21st edition of Who’s Who of American Women, as well as multiple editions of Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in America. M arlys Marshall Styne commenced her career as a student at Luther College, where she earned a BA in 1954. Teaching at West Virginia University as an instructor of English soon thereafter beginning in 1956, she received an MA from the University of Minnesota during her tenure. Relocating to Madison, Wisconsin, she completed postgraduate coursework at the University of Wisconsin-Madison while serving as a teaching assistant between 1958 and 1959 before starting her tenure at Wilbur Wright College in Chicago, Illinois. At the inception of her career with the college, she was an instructor of English for six years before ascending the ranks to assistant professor in 1965 and associate professor in 1976. Beginning in 1987, she was a full professor of English, eventually being named a distinguished service professor until her retirement from academia in 1999. During this time, she chaired the department of English for six years. Even after her retirement, Ms. Styne was adjunct faculty in the department of English at Wilbur Wright College from 2000 to 2003.
