76 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A former instructor at Cochise Community College’s Douglas campus in Arizona for 13 years, Ruth A. Wright Britton attained emeritus status in 2012 and currently serves as the volunteer secretary of the board of directors of the Legacy Foundation of Southeast Arizona. Entering her profession due to the influence of her own teachers, she is notable for designing and initiating collaborative classes/learning communities, which paired critical reading with a content subject such as sociology and psychology. The overall reading score success rate rose to 95 percent during the academic year. Additionally, Ms. Britton founded the Social Concerns Club, which integrated service learning fromhighway clean up and school supplies for children in local communities. At the inception of her career, Ms. Britton served as an elementary school teacher. In 1993, she was hired by Cochise Community College as reading instructor and went on to become the Division Chair of Developmental Education. The co-author of two books, she is certified in reading K-14 and nationally certified in developmental education. She was inducted into the Cochise Community College Hall of Fame and received the Arizona Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Volunteerism. Blanford Jr. is a nationally recognized educator who served the University of Houston-Clear Lake for over 35 years. Commencing his tenure as an assistant professor in 1975, he ascended the ranks to associate professor in 1978 and full professor in 1986. Obtaining emeritus status in 2002, he continued to act as a part-time professor of physics and astronomy until 2013. Prior to delving into academia, Dr. Blanford was a master conference associate at Universite Clermont Auvergne, resident research associate at the NASA Johnson Space Center and postdoctoral fellow at the Lunar Science Institute. Initially inspired by his high school science teacher, Dr. Blanford received a BA from the Catholic University of America, MS from the University of Louisville and PhD from Washington University in St. Louis. After gaining prominence in the field, he obtained an MS in applied science from the University of St. Thomas. Dr. Blanford is perhaps most renowned for participating in the measurement of an energy profile of cosmic rays in a moon rock. Subsequently, this allowed scientists to use radiation as a clock to determine how long objects have been on the moon.
