77 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine W ith more than 30 years of experience, Stephan Clarke formerly served primarily as an English teacher at E.J. Wilson High School from 1970 until his retirement in 1999. A certified secondary education teacher, he recalls seeing the enlightened looks on his students’ faces when complex problems became clear, and cites these moments as career high points. He received a BS in education from the State University of New York at Geneseo and an MA from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Mr. Clarke is a prolific speaker who lectured across New York and in the U.K. He has spoken at Somerville College of the University of Oxford, Royal Holloway College of the University of London, the New York State Education Department Writing Conference and the National Council of Teachers of English. He has also written several books on literary and historical subjects since 1985. Mr. Clarke received the Edgar Allan Poe Special Award fromMysteryWriters of America and an Excellence in Secondary School Teaching Award from the University of Rochester. In addition, he was given myriad accolades from the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. LANGUAGE EDUCATOR (RETIRED), WRITER, GENEALOGIST Churchville, NY STEPHAN CLARKE D r. Hans R. Brunner became involved in his profession due to the influence of his father, who was a chemist. After earning an MD at the University of Basel in 1964, he completed an internship, residency and research fellowship in the Laboratory of Clinical Pathology at the University of Geneva. He immigrated to the U.S. soon thereafter and completed a research fellowship in hypertension at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital before earning an appointment as a research associate at Columbia University. Most recently, Dr. Brunner served as a professor of medicine at the University of Lausanne from 1990 until attaining emeritus status in 2003. Focusing his attention on hypertension and the renin-angiotensin system, he was the first to establish ACE inhibitors as useful therapeutic agents. The former vice president of the International Society of Hypertension, Dr. Brunner is a recipient of the Haralambos Gavras Life Achievement Award from the Hellenic Society for the Study of Hypertension, the Volhard Award and Lectureship from the International Society of Hypertension, and the Novartis Award from the American Heart Association, among other notable honors.
