Robert Willard was encouraged to enter the fields of mathematics and engineering by his high school teachers who recognized his affinity for the subjects. Earning a BSEE and MSEE from the University of Washington, he first served Boeing as a staff associate. Finding the work to be trivial, he went on to pursue a doctorate to have a wider array of career choices. Receiving a PhD from the University of Washington, he went on to serve as a senior engineer and research professor in the applied physics laboratory for nine years before returning to Boeing as a senior engineer for three years. From there, he served Metricor Inc. as director of instrumentation and engineering from 1984 to 1992 before settling into his final role as a senior engineer for B.E. Meyers & Company Inc., a position he held from 1992 until 2008. Among his notable achievements, Dr. Willard is most renowned for his patents and his work conducted at B.E. Meyers & Company Inc., where he developed illuminating lasers for the military. He is currently working on a patent for electronic systems that would help treat Alzheimer’s disease.
